Joe Calzaghe V Roy Jones Jr

As I begin this blog the countdown reads 1 day 1 hour and 12 mins until the festivities kick off. Who will be victorious? We shall soon find out. I’ll tell you this much if Jones Jr can fight the way he did against Felix Trinidad in January then Calzaghe is going to be in for a tough time.

Roy Jones is a living legend no one has accomplised what he has in boxing and probably never will. 8 different titles at 4 weightclasses is just phenomenal he has absolutly nothing left to prove. If Calzaghe wins even if it’s convincingly people will still say that Roy was passed his best and that Joe was lucky to fight him at this stage of his career. And they would be right but that’s not to say it won’t be a great achievement nonetheless. If Joe does come out of the ring victorious I think he will most definately retire he also has little left to prove.

The talk of him fighting Kelly Pavlik is just not going to happen. Pavlik will (if he’s got any sense) drop back down to his prefered weight and fight at Middleweight and Calzaghe vacated his Super Middleweight title in the run up to this fight to end doubts of him fighting at that particular weight again. Joe has just got his promoter’s license aswell so he most likely do that after he hangs his gloves up.

If he loses he may have no choice but to have a rematch with Bernard Hopkins but again I doubt that will happen (the rematch that is not him losing). In my opinion Joe knows he was lucky to win that fight and after seeing what Hopkins did to Kelly Pavlik recently I wouldn’t want any part in it either. Bernard will continue trash talking him to no avail because let’s face it what could he possibly gain by beating a 43 year old man he’d have way too much too lose and nothing to gain.

So now the countdown reads 1 day 36 minutes and counting until it all transpires. My mind is telling me Joe is abit younger abit fitter and really should win this by decision if he boxes smart. But something deep down is telling me Calzaghe has never fought anyone quite like Jones Jr before in his career and Roy could turn the clock back and show us why he still is the great fighter we remember him as and come out triumphant.

Whatever people may say about this fight that it has come to late and both boxers have seen better days should just cast their mind back a month or so and remember that a 43 year old beat a 26 year old in style in one of the best boxing displays of his career when people doubted that it could happen. Boxing is a funny sport and sometimes people can do the unthinkable and something totally unpredictable can happen. Remember Buster Douglas anyone?

1 day 24 mins to go….

let’s get ready to rumble!!!!!
